Army veteran surrenders after barricading himself inside Cranston home

An army veteran is recovering after barricading himself inside his home with incinerary devices and at least one weapon. The incident caused an evacuation in and around the complex off of Legion Way.

According to police, the 30-year-old vet was apparently suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome. Officials received a call about 7 o'clock from his family. After four hours, negotiators were able to talk him out of the situation and took him into custody.

Chief of Cranston Police, Colonel Marco Palombo, said "he's had some issues in the past, and I'm happy to say he's going to a place where he can get the help he needs, and all of our officers are going home safe."

The bomb squad had to stay and sweep the house for explosives. First sending in a robotic device to make sure the area was safe.
