Woonsocket, R.I. -
A HAZMAT situation happened Saturday afternoon at Stericycle, a medical waste recycling and disposal plant in Woonsocket.
Officials told ABC6 News that HAZMAT crews were called to 369 Park East Drive for a report of a possible fire. The facility, officials say, handles medical waste and other hazardous material.
Fire officials say if that were the case, the fire could burn medical waste and materials that are dangerous to human life, necessitating the response of a HAZMAT team.
Fire officials were on scene for several hours Saturday afternoon.
Woonsocket fire department had no comment Sunday morning on what precipitated a HAZMAT response, or the outcome of their investigation.
