Shooting victim dies, becomes Providence's sixth homicide of the year

     The man shot on Prairie Avenue in Providence last month has died.

     Providence Police say Sammy Mateo, 25, was shot in the early morning hours on May 26th.  They say they were responding to a call of shots fired when they found out someone had brought Mateo to Rhode Island Hospital with several gunshot wounds.

     Mateo was admitted that day in critical condition. He died today in the hospital, making him the sixth homicide victim in the city this year.
