The budget for the city of Providence has been set.

Tonight the city council unanimously approved Mayor Taveras 642-million dollar spending plan.

It includes no tax increases.

More than half, 329 million dollars, will go to schools.

The police department is getting less money, the fire department a little more.

Thirty-five new firefighters will be hired, a move the mayor hopes will cut down on overtime costs.
