PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -

Several Rhode Island projects have won millions of dollars from the federal government to support health care innovation.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says the University of Rhode Island is getting $14 million for a program that will help teach adults with disabilities how to manage chronic health conditions.

Women & Infants Hospital is getting nearly $3.3 million to improve services for 2,400 mothers who have had pre-term babies.

The Boston-based Health Resources in Action is also getting an award for a program of its New England Asthma Regional Council. The program aims to improve care for over 1,400 children with persistent asthma. It will also operate in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Vermont.

All the projects are expected to result in significant savings over three years.
