Head-on collision in Westerly leaves one dead

One man has been pronounced dead after suffering injuries from a head-on collision that happened on Hopkinton Road in Westerly, according to police.

Police say Jon Alberghini, 45, of Westerly, was taken to Westerly Hospital after his car collided with a 2008 Subaru. He was later pronounced dead.

The other driver, Carolyn Bernasconi, 74, had to be extracted from her vehicle. She was flown to Rhode Island Hospital, where she is being treated for serious injuries, according to police.

Both vehicles suffered serious front-end damage.
