It's day two in the trial of suspended North Providence Police Chief John Whiting. Whiting is accused of stealing more than 7 hundred dollars from a stripper after he pulled her over and then trying to cover it up.
On Monday, Pawtucket police officer John Brown testified that Whiting tried to give him the money and told him to spend it in Vegas.
Brown took the stand once again on Tuesday. Recorded phone conversations between Brown and Whiting were played aloud for the judge in court. These phone conversations were ones that Brown did with the state police knowing that he was being recorded. Whiting, however, did not know that he was being recorded.
The conversations were mostly unintelligible, but some parts of the conversation could be made out.
Brown could be heard saying things like,"you put me in a bad situation, and we need to get our story straight."
Whiting's responses can only be understood in the transcripts in which he says," I gave you the money Brown, you decided to keep it."
