It has happened again.
There was another suspicious car fire in Providence this morning...and while investigators still don't know if they are all related, people are scared.
There is no doubt an arsonist is on the loose in Providence.
The big question is: is it just one person, or is there a copy cat:
This burned out shell of an SUV is all that's left after the latest car fire in Providence. Firefighters responded to 224 Burnside, just after 1 Tuesday morning. to find the vehicle and one near by in flames. There have been five other car fires this month...and it's frightening neighbors:
Effie Smith, Neighbor says,"Yes it does, yes it does.
How so?
"A lot, cause when you are sleeping your life is in danger," she answers.
The Fire Departments says it does not know if the latest fire, is linked to five others in earlier June.
Just last week Chief Michael Dillon said, "It is unusual to have 3 or 4 fires in the same area, at one time."
ABC6 Reporter Mark Curtis said, "While there has been a rash of suspicious car fires in Providence in recent weeks, this one was even more frightening. Take a look at this. The car that caught on fire, well it was close to the house, and the house eventually caught fire, too, and there were people sleeping inside."
The family did escape with out injury. This latest fire happened near Thurbers and Burnside, across from Roger WIlliams School. Neighbors are asking police for stepped up patrols:
Effie Smith, who lives across the street from the latest fire says, "I don't know what they can do about it, but they can control, you know make it safer for us by coming around, checking to make sure, checking to see if there's any strange people around. You know, and different things like that."
One firefighter was treated for a minor injury, after the latest car fire.
