How to report a tip on illegal guns in Providence

The city of Providence and Providence Police have announced a new initiative to curb the use of illegal guns and gun violence by starting a tipster program.

If you see or know of any illegal guns in the city, you can report a tip to police in several ways:

1. Calling 1-855-776-7100; callers can remain anonymous.

2. Texting PPDTIP plus your tip to CRIMES (274637).

3. Completing an anonymous web-form at www.crimereports.com

4. Completing an anonymous web-form via mobile app that you can download from TipSoft.com or searching "TipSubmit" in the Android Market or iTunes App Store.

Callers can remain anonymous and can receive a reward of up to $1,000 if their tip leads to an arrest or grand jury indictment of a felony offender.

Tipsters can call back in seven business days (between 1-3pm Monday-Friday) to learn the status of their tip and how to receive instructions on award eligibility.
