A senior aide to Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee has acknowledged that he lives on property in Exeter where police say the governor's 18-year-old son held an underage drinking party, but says he didn't see any signs of alcohol that day.
Stephen Hourahan said Thursday that he lives on the Chafee family farm and saw Caleb Chafee and his friends on the afternoon of May 28. He said he didn't see anyone drinking at the time and spent the evening in his home.
Police say an 18-year-old girl became ill that night and was treated at a hospital for alcohol poisoning. Authorities are deciding whether to bring criminal charges.
Governor Chafee said he's trying to get accurate information on what happened that night, when asked if Hourahan faced any repercussions.
