Providence fire and police retirees vote in favor of pension deal

Retirees voted in favor of the pension reform agreement with the State.

The tentative deal struck with the city last month would stop cost of living adjustments, cap pensions and move older retirees to medicare.

In a statement Mayor Taveras hailed the vote as "an important milestone on Providence's path toward fiscal recovery."  

Providence's active police and firefighters are expected to vote on the agreement in the upcoming weeks.
