Future Friar Mark Jankowski Selected In First Round Of NHL Draft
Jankowski was selected 21st overall by the Calgary Flames.
PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Future Providence College hockey player Mark Jankowski (St. Catherines, Ont.) was selected in the first round (21st overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft which took place on June 22 in Pittsburgh, Pa. Jankowski is the third Friar ever to be picked in the first round and the first since 1992 when Joe Hulbig was picked 13th overall.
Jankowski is a 6-foot-3, 175-pound forward who played at Stanstead College Prep High School in Quebec. Jankowsi was rated 43rd among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting prior to the draft. During his senior season in which he helped his team to a school record 39 wins, Jankowski recorded 53 goals, 40 assists and 93 points in 57 games.
Rounds two-seven of the NHL Draft will continue on Saturday, June 23 and two future Friars are expected to be chosen.
