Mother of badly beaten newborn charged with neglect - ABC6 - Providence, RI and New Bedford, MA News, Weather

The mother of a newborn who was nearly beaten to death in Providence, is now facing charges of cruelty and neglect.

18-year-old Mayra Gonzalez has been ordered held on bail. Police say the baby's father, 26-year-old Christopher Jimenez, beat the girl so badly last week that when rescuers found her, her heart had stopped.

The baby is still at Hasbro Children's Hospital in critical condition. Her father is at the ACI awaiting trial on child abuse charges.
