PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Newly crowned Miss USA is making her homecoming to Rhode Island with an appearance in Bristol's Fourth of July parade.

Cranston native Olivia Culpo was crowned Miss USA last month, the first time a Rhode Islander has won the pageant.

Parade organizers know the star power of the 20-year-old Boston University sophomore. Parade chairman Ray Lavey calls her appearance a "great thing for her, and a great thing for us."

Culpo's homecoming will be a bit of the whirlwind she's becoming used to as she prepares to compete to become Miss Universe.

A self-described "cellist nerd," Culpo will perform with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Pops Orchestra at Providence's holiday celebration. She'll also be presented with a key to the city of Cranston and have a tree planted in her honor.
