NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island dog named Chloe is recovering after being rescued and resuscitated by firefighters who saved her when lightning apparently set her house on fire.

The goldendoodle from North Smithfield was home alone Wednesday when heavy storms hit the area.

Fire Chief Joel Jillson says by the time crews arrived, the roof had collapsed and smoke and flames could be seen through the windows.

Jillson says they were told Chloe was inside, and three firefighters went in search of her. They found her unconscious under a bed amid heavy smoke.

They had just received training on how to resuscitate animals and put it to use to revive Chloe. Jillson said she was happy, even a little frisky, after being revived.

She was treated and released from a veterinary hospital
