Ortiz plans to hit in cage with protective boot
BOSTON (AP) - David Ortiz isn't about to let a protective boot on his right foot keep him from taking a few hacks in an indoor cage at Fenway Park.
One day after being placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right Achilles, Ortiz said before Thursday's game against Chicago that he plans to hit in the cage as early as Friday.
Wearing a black protective boot on his right foot and standing at his locker, he laughed and then smiled before answering if he thought it might be a bit awkward.
Ortiz went to Miami for a second opinion on the injury Wednesday, a day after the club told him it was strained.(Copyright 2012 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.)
