NEWPORT, R.I. - Drivers are having a tough time adjusting to changes with the E-Z pass lanes on the Pell Bridge near Newport and Jamestown.
Bridge and turnpike officials have gotten a lot of feedback about confusion over the new open-road tolling, with dedicated lanes for E-Z pass, a transponder that allows people to pay tolls electronically.
The confusion has prompted officials to issue a grace period for those who mistakenly use the wrong lane.
After August 1, 2012 however, those who use the lanes without a valid transponder will have to pay the fine, which consists of $10 on top of the unpaid toll.
