Son of Sen. Whitehouse Arrested for DUI

The son of Senator Sheldon Whitehouse has been charged with a DUI.

19-year-old Alexander Whitehouse was arrested at about 1:30 this morning, at the 7-11 on Aquidneck Avenue.

Police say they responded to the convenience store after a call from a witness who said someone was driving erratically while pulling into the parking lot. When police searched the car they found marijuana and beer.

Whitehouse's passenger, Robert Bauer, was also arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and underage drinking.

The Whitehouse family released this statement after the arrest:

"We are deeply concerned and upset by our son's poor judgment. But we love Alexander and we will deal with this as a family."
