A Providence man is behind bars after he was accused of terrorizing his neighbors with a hammer, and then trying to rob them.

Police say Troy Tunstall stole the hammer from a construction truck and then threatened his neighbors on Bergen Street with it. He only managed to steal a cell phone from one of them.

Neighbors say it is not the first time Tunstall has used hardware as a weapon.

"He tried to hit me with this too," Angel Navarro said while holding up a large wrench. "But I took it from him and I got it."

Navarro lives next door to Tunstall, who he says has become a chronic problem in the neighborhood.

"He threatened a couple of people with a knife that I know of and that's just down this way," Edward Strong said.

Tunstall has a long wrap sheet of charges for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, assault and just last week, indecent exposure in front of children on the very same street.

The robbery involving in the hammer is his first felony charge, but neighbors say they are concerned Tunstall could soon move on to more serious weapons.

"He threatens somebody with a wrench as a weapon and then a knife," Strong said. "That's one, two and you know what three is going to be. It's not that hard to get your hands on a gun."
