Coventry American Wins RI State Little League Crown with Walk-Off Homer

Quentin Dearden leads Coventry American Little League to 4-3 win over Cranston Western Little League.


Thursday was a great day for Quentin Dearden, as he hit two home runs to
carry Coventry American Little League to a 4-3 victory over Cranston
Western Little League at Hien Field, Lincoln in seven innings.
Even in defeat, Steve Piscopiello played well for Cranston Western Little
League.


Piscopiello paced Cranston Western Little League at the plate. Piscopiello
went 2-3, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the first inning and
homered in the fifth inning.


Piscopiello baffled Coventry American Little League, striking out 10 batters.
Piscopiello allowed three earned runs on three hits and two walks over five
innings.


The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to five lead changes
in the game.


Coventry American Little League took the lead in the seventh inning and
held on for the victory. Coventry American Little League scored on a solo
home run by Dearden off Jaimen Albizu.


Coventry American Little League hit three home runs in the win. Additional
home runs for Coventry American Little League came when Jarrad
Grossguth homered in the fourth inning and Dearden homered in the second
and seventh innings.


Coventry American Little League was sparked by Dearden and Grossguth,
who teamed up for three hits and four RBIs.


Cranston Western Little League jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of
the first. Piscopiello singled to start things off before Nick Lawton homered,
scoring Piscopiello.


Coventry American Little League scored one run in the fourth inning, and
then followed it up with one more in the seventh. In the fourth, Coventry
American Little League scored on a solo home run by Grossguth.
