WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - Volunteers and staff from the state health department are hoping to scrub a Warwick beach clean of cigarette butts this weekend.
Heath Director Michael Fine, members of his staff and others plan to cleanup Goddard Memorial State Park Beach on Sunday morning.
The health department says cigarette butts contain toxins that hurt the environment and poison living things.
The cleanup is being done in collaboration with a Department of Environmental Management campaign to promote smoke-free beaches.
