RI health officials warn about raw eggs in cake

Posted: Updated:

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island public health officials are warning consumers not to eat cake sold at two local bakeries after attendees at a birthday party fell ill.

The state's Department of Health says any cakes bought at Emely Party Store and Bakery locations in Providence or Central Falls before Wednesday should be thrown away.

The state says frosting on the cakes was made with raw eggs that were stored in unapproved containers.

The state says the health investigation was prompted by an outbreak of illness following a birthday party.

Officials say the owner of the bakeries has cooperated with public health officials and made all recommended changes.
