The Rhode Island SPCA says they've received 5 new reports of dogs getting sick in Warwick's Governor Francis neighborhood. People who live there say their dogs are all being poisoned by the same person.
Between 2004 and 2011, Warwick Police responded to six cases of dogs getting sick. Some of the dogs' owners say they got a threatening letter in the mail, in which the writer said he would make the dog sick. Those letters are all said to be signed with a similar signature. These five new reports bring the number of incidents to 11, out of which five of the dogs died. The last fatal case was in 2011. The RISPCA thinks 10 of those cases are related.
Joe Warzycha of The RISPCA says he'll meet with Warwick Police this week to discuss the investigation into this problem. If they find out their person of interest is sending threats by mail and poisoning dogs, that person could face felony charges and jail time.
