Rhode Islanders were reacting to the announcement that Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) was selected to be former Governor Mitt Romney's vice presidential running mate.
State Republican Chairman Mark Zaccaria praised it as a bold move, aimed at the economic problems related to federal entitlement programs such as Medicare and Social Security and concerns about the U.S.government's ability to meet those obligations.
State Democratic Chairman Ed Paycheck countered that as Chairman of the House Budget Committee, Congressman Ryan had a chance to negotiate a compromise on entitlement spending between Congress and the White House, but failed to do so.
