Multiple arrests in Woonsocket home invasion

WOONSOCKET, R.I. - Several people have been taken into custody by Woonsocket police after attempting an armed home invasion.

Police say the home invasion happened early Sunday morning. Three black males entered an apartment at 620 Front Street, demanding cash. According to police, the robbers displayed two handguns, and one shot was fired in the apartment.

Fortunately, no one was injured.

Police say they arrived on scene around 7 a.m. When they arrived, they saw a gray BMW take off at a high rate of speed, and police immediately gave chase. Sometime during the pursuit, police say, three men exited the car and fled on foot at Park Avenue and Willow Street, while the vehicle continued down Park Avenue.

Shortly thereafter, police say, the BMW crashed near Hamlet Ave. and Cumberland street. No one remaining in the car was injured.

Police took the driver into custody, and made several other arrests.
