Governor Chafee's son pleaded no contest in Washington County District Court in Wakefield this morning on charges stemming from an underage drinking party in May over Memorial Day weekend. Police charged Caleb Chafee under Rhode Island's social host law.

Caleb Chafee will pay a $500 fine which will be given to the Rhode Island Victim's Fund, and he'll perform 30 hours of community service in a program at Rhode Island Hospital.

A police report says Caleb Chafee asked the friends of an 18-year-old girl to leave the party after she started vomiting. The friends loaded her into their car and left, but they eventually had to pull over on the side of Victory Highway. They called 911 and were met by an ambulance and Rhode Island State Police.

The governor released a statement last week saying he was "disappointed" and that his son would take responsibility for his actions.
