RIPTA is planning to fire five more workers and
suspend a sixth over a security breach. The agency says someone was caught on tape covering up a
security camera in an area where RIPTA fares are counted back in June.
Tuesday, RIPTA fired 3 managers for failing
to notice the breach when it happened.
"While the management staff weren't necessarily perpetrating
what we think was inappropriate, they certainly had direct responsibility to
oversee those who were," said RIPTA Board Chairman and Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian.
The security breach came to light during a review requested
by Governor Chafee. RIPTA CEO Charles Odimgbe
says they're still investigating whether any money was taken.
