PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ The secretary of state's office is handing out free state identification to anyone who needs it ahead of the Sept. 11 primary.
A new law requires voters to show ID before they cast a ballot at the polls.
Free IDs are available in Newport at Donovan Manor on 16 Chapel St. on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Warwick at Shalom Apartments, 1 Shalom Dr. on Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and in Providence at Elizabeth's Place, 700 Westminster St., from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.
Those who wish to get an ID must bring proof of identity such as a Social Security card, credit or debit card, utility bill or government-issued document.
