We're learning more about the woman who police say was killed by a drunk driver while driving with her granddaughter in South County.

Neighbors told ABC6, the 53 year old Donna Eddy was just playing with that young granddaughter in her front yard, this past weekend.

Thursday night, police said the two were riding in a car in South Kingstown when a suspected drunk driver hit her.

That driver, James Mulcahey was charged at the Washington County Courthouse, Friday. He was seen with a black eye and rushed away as reporters peppered him with questions about the accident on South County Trail, Thursday night, where police said he struck Donna Eddy's car around 11pm.

Officers said Eddy was killed instantly and her toddler granddaughter was sent to Hasbro Children's Hospital with minor injuries.

Eddy's neighbors told ABC6 she did a lot of driving from her Warwick home to her daughter's house in South County, where we're also told her granddaughter lives.

As for Mulcahey, he's facing several charges including drunk driving. He did post bail Friday.

Mulcahy has been ordered by the judge not to drink, to put an interlock device in his car and go to substance abuse counseling. The 46 year old has another court date early next month.
