Posted: Updated:

WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island officials have announced $110 million in federal funds to pay for a runway extension project at T.F. Green Airport in Warwick.

U.S. Sen. Jack Reed, Gov. Lincoln Chafee, Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian and the interim head of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation, Peter Frazier, discussed the plan Tuesday afternoon at a news conference at the airport.

The financing package will be a combination of grants and loans and will help pay for the runway extension, a runway safety project and noise abatement for people who live nearby. The funding is over five years. The work could begin as early as next summer

T.F. Green handled about 4 million passengers last year.
