PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 18 Brown University men's soccer team
ended No. 10 Cornell University's 12-game winning streak and undefeated
record with a 2-0 victory at Stevenson Field on Saturday afternoon. The
Bears improved to 11-1-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the league to take over
the top spot in Ivy League rankings, while Cornell dropped to 12-1-0 and
3-1-0 in the league.
Sophomore forward Ben Maurey (Downingtown, PA) tallied his third game-winning goal of the season just 4:34 minutes into the match. Senior forward Bobby Belair (Myrtle Beach, SC) nailed a shot toward the net on a cross from senior defender Dylan Remick
(Inverness, IL) that was saved by Big Red goalkeeper Rick Pflasterer.
However, the rebound went to Maurey, who launched the ball into the back
of the net.

(Arlingotn, VA), who combined four saves, earned his first of the game
22 minutes in when the nation's leading scorer, Daniel Haber, sent one
his way. Haber led the Cornell offense with a total of eight shots,
three of which were on goal.
Neither team scored for the remainder of the first half, as Brown
held an 8-7 advantage in shots and the Big Red was ahead 5-3 in corner
kicks.
Cornell came out after the half and had its best chance of the game
in the first minute of play. Peter Chodas pushed the ball up to Haber at
the top of the penalty box. Haber blasted a shot on goal but
Kernan-Schloss made a spectacular diving save. The ball rebounded to the
left of Kernan-Schloss as Tyler Regan rushed in to try and put one in,
but his shot went directly at Kernan-Schloss for another save.
Brown was able to seal the victory when Cornell scored an own-goal
with 19:30 remaining in the game. Pflasterer punched a shot attempt away
that went of Chodas' head and into the net to give the Bears a 2-0
lead.
Cornell out-shot Brown 8-2 in the second half and had a 15-10
advantage for the game, and also went 3-0 in corners to lead Brown 8-3.
Maurey led Brown's attack with four shots , two on goal, followed by Bobby Belair with three shots on goal.
Kernan-Schloss improved to 11-1-2 on the year and picked up his
eighth shutout, the team's ninth, of the season. Plfasterer ended the
day with four saves and dropped to 12-1-0 and 3-1-0 on the year.
The Bears hit the road to take on the Penn Quakers at 7:30 p.m. on
Saturday, October 27, and will then host Yale on senior night on
November 3.
