Signs of animal cannibalism found in West Greenwich cruelty case

Posted: Updated:

Rabbits so hungry that they ate their own.

This the latest to come out of a case of animal cruelty in West Greenwich.

37- confined animals were found living in cramped conditions without adequate food or water, this Sunday, in a house off of Mishnock Road.

Things became so bad in the house that some live rabbits started eating their dead kin.

"When you're starting to starve to death, unfortunately survival of the fittest kicks in with these animals and they have to resort to that type of means to survive." said RISPCA head Dr. E.J. Finocchio.

The animals that are still alive include rabbits, chinchillas, doves, geese, ducks, pigeons, and cats.

There have been no formal charges brought against the woman accused of owning these animals yet.

Police have to wait till a report and exam can be done on each animal, which based on the number of animals, could take several weeks.
