Cranston's rat problem is being traced to backyard bird feeders. The city passed a resolution allowing people to have just one bird feeder in their yards.
Officials believe fewer bird feeders will cut down on the amount of bird seed, a favorite snack for rats.
"What does it matter if you happen to have one or many? I don't like it. It's something I'm going to do what I want to do. I don't' thin anyone should tell anybody what to do," said Cranston resident Donna Carchia who has birds of her own.
"It's been an issue for a while now and I think whatever is going to keep these rats at bay is a good idea," said resident Bill Smith.
As of now there are no fines in place for having too many bird feeders, but city inspectors are asking people to cooperate.
