38 Studios auction in Providence brings in $650K

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ A sell-off of items from the former headquarters of Curt Schilling's failed video game company in Providence brought in about $650,000.

Over 1,000 people registered to bid Tuesday on what was left of 38 Studios, including sophisticated animation equipment, office furniture and figurines of Schilling.

38 Studios receiver Richard Land wasn't immediately available to comment. The state Economic Development Corp. released the figure Friday. The EDC said earlier that about 95 percent of the items were sold. An initial auction, at a studio in Maryland acquired by 38 Studios, raised $180,000.

38 Studios was lured to Rhode Island from Massachusetts with a $75 million state loan guarantee. The state is likely on the hook for some $100 million related to the deal.

The company filed for bankruptcy in June.
