The Providence College men's basketball defeated the NJIT Highlanders, 64-63, on Saturday Nov. 10 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence.  With the win, the Friars improved their all-time regular-season opener record to 75-11 (.872), in addition to 78-8 (.907) in home openers.

Senior Vincent Council (Brooklyn, N.Y.) started the game and was taken off the court with 15:18 remaining in the first half due to injury. Junior Bryce Cotton took over at the point guard position, and contributed 12 points during the first half. Sophomore LaDontae Henton (Lansing, Mich.) led the team with an impressive 18 points during the first half.  The Friars finished the first half, 32-29.

Henton started the second half with a quick lay-up to bring his point total up to 20.  The Friars extended their lead to 10 points within six minutes of the start of the second half, their highest lead of the game.  NJIT chipped away at the Friars' lead and took the lead with a three-point basket from Chris Flores with 4:13 left in the game, 63-62.  NJIT's Flores finished the game tied his career high of 28 points. The Friars tied the game with a made free throw by Cotton with 2:19 remaining in the game.  Cotton again was sent to the free throw line with 5.1 seconds left in the game.  Cotton's made free throw put the Friars up, 64-63.  NJIT's PJ Miller took a deep three at the buzzer that missed to give the Friars the win.

Henton, Cotton and junior Kadeem Batts (Powder Springs, Ga.) finished the game with double-digits in scoring.  Henton finished the game with 24 and Cotton registered 21 points.  Batts added 10 points.
