The search for a missing fisherman off the coast of Cape Cod has been suspended for the night. The Coast Guard and police had been searching the waters since the scallop boat sank before noon in the chilly waters. 2 crew members were on board.
The Coast Guards mission quickly turning from rescue to one of recovery. The boats captain presumed to have gone down with his ship. He was in the pilot house, where the boat is steered, when it sank. The waters 190 feet deep. The temperature just 49 degrees.
Rescue crews scoured the waters around Provincetown for hours looking for the fisherman. The name of the missing fisherman was not officially released, but friends say the ship's Captain is Jean Frottier of Wellfleet, Mass.
The boat, Twinlight, capsized this morning about 2 miles north of Race Point. The vessel sinking after the rake used for scalloping became tangled in fishing gear.
A second crew member was rescued by a lobster boat called the Glutton. Police say that man, from Provincetown, was not hurt.
Divers will begin searching for the missing man again tomorrow morning.
