The Pawtucket Police Dept. is currently investigating two separate shootings on Merrick St.
On November 19th, at approximately 6:30PM, officers were called to the area of Main St. near Merrick St. where reports of a small vehicle had shot at the occupants of an SUV. Once police arrived, witnesses stated that the SUV was traveling in reverse, while being shot at, and then struck a parked car. The occupants of the SUV (two or three people) then fled the vehicle on foot.
Both the occupants of the small vehicle and the SUV are unaccounted for at this time. The owner of the SUV stated that she had lent the vehicle for someone to use. Police also located several .45 caliber shell casings in the area. Despite all of the clamor and wreckage, no injuries were reported.
The second incident occured just 8 hours later, at 2:30AM on Nov 20th. Two dark skinned males, each armed with a handgun, broke into 45 Merrick St. while it's residents, a couple and their 3 month old daughter, were asleep. One suspect then proceeded to beat the male demanding drugs and money, and then the other discharged his firearm, striking the female in the shoulder, while she was holding her baby daughter. The suspects fled the scene with some cash and a flat-screen television. Their current whereabouts are unknown.
Luckily, the female's injuries are not life threatening and neither her daughter or boyfriend were harmed.
Anyone with any information about either of these incidents is encouraged to call Det. Laforest of the Pawtucket police at 727-9100 Ext. 761.
