FEMA is trying to reach out to victim's of the Hurricane Sandy in Rhode Island. The agency says families and businesses have until January 14th to apply for help.

They want to make sure everybody knows about three disaster recovery centers in Westerly, South Kingstown, and Newport.

"The problem is folks very often say well my neighbor had a little bit more damage than I did so I probably don't need to register because I'll be taking money away from them. That's not the case. If they had any impact from the storm we need them to register and let the system determine whether or not they are eligible," said Nick Russo, Federal Coordinating Officer for FEMA.

The locations are-

Washington County:Misquamicut Fire Station, 65 Crandall Ave, Westerly, RI or 131 Asa Pond Road, South Kingstown, RI.

Newport County: Middletown Police Station (Community Room), 123 Valley Road, Middletown, RI.

The centers will stay open as long as people keep coming in. Hours of operation for all DRCs are Monday through Saturday from 8 am to 6 PM, and Sundays from 1 PM to 6 PM. All three DRCs will be closed on Nov. 22 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

You can also apply for FEMA help by calling 1–800–621–FEMA, m.fema.gov via smart phone, or by going to DisasterAssistance.gov
