NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. - Fire officials are trying to determine the cause of a fire that severely damaged a large home on Potter Road and led to a North Kingstown firefighter being injured.
The fire department says they were dispatched to 229 Potter Road in North Kingstown shortly after 12:30 a.m. for the report of a fire there. Fire officials say when they arrived, the 10,000+ square-foot home was engulfed in flames.
Although the fire was extinguished by 6:30 a.m., there is extensive damage to the home. One firefighter suffered a heart attack while fighting the fire and had to be taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.
So far, the North Kingstown fire department has no word on the cause of the fire, or whether it is suspicious.
Nine surrounding towns assisted in extinguishing the blaze. The home was vacant at the time of the fire, according to fire officials.
