The City of Providence has yet again selected this years Christmas tree. With the help of two Rhode Island residents a Colorado blue spruce tree that stands at about 35-feet tall will bring the holiday spirit to town.
As you recall the City put out a call for this years "Perfect" tree. There were a total of 15 entries; Spokesman David Ortiz says some of nominated trees weren't seriously considered. He described some of them as "Charlie Brown tree submission". However of 15 entries from around Rhode Island, only one lucky winner was chosen.
The special tree belongs to 82-year-old retired city firefighter Robert Mink and his wife Marie. The Mink's daughter insisted on them donating the tree to the City of Providence for the Holidays as the tree has gotten a little too large for their property.
Robert Mink planted the lovely Colorado blue spruce tree about 45-years ago which makes this tree all the more special as it has sentimental value but the Mink's are indeed thrilled that their tree was selected.
