UPDATE: Two people are waking up very happy this morning. The winning tickets were sold in Missouri and Arizona. Now, we wait for the winners to come forward.
The numbers drawn Wednesday night are: 5, 16, 22, 23, 29 and Powerball of 6.
At this point it is not clear if the winners were individuals or groups. Officials in Arizona said they would announce where their winning ticket was sold at a news conference later today. Lottery officials in Missouri have yet to say when they will reveal where their winning ticket was sold.
People lined up, Wednesday, to buy their Powerball tickets and their chance to win 550 million dollars. The record half-billion dollar prize created long lines everywhere. Even if there is no winner Wednesday night, someone is guaranteed to cash in on the drawing.
More than $2000 worth of tickets were selling every minute, Wednesday.
Powerball ticket sales are up by 25 –percent, since the cost of a ticket went from one to two dollars last January.
That's the reason we've seen such large jackpots this year. Five of them topped 200–million dollars.
So, where does the money go when you buy that two-dollar ticket? One dollar goes to pay out the cash prizes and the other goes to your state to fund education and healthcare.
