EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. - A 51 year-old East Providence man is in serious condition after he was hit by a car early Saturday morning.
Police say the driver took off without checking to see if the man was okay.
The alleged hit-and-run happened on Taunton Avenue at Broadway. Police say a man was crossing the street when he was struck, leaving him with multiple broken bones and serious head injuries. The car is being described by police as dark-colored, possibly maroon in color and may have a damaged front-end, hood, or windshield.
Police say the victim is expected to survive, but they are asking anyone who may have information to call the East Providence Police Department at 401-435-7600.
There are no suspects at this time, according to police.
