It was a wake up call a Middletown couple wasn't expecting. A driver crashing into their parked cars, sending one through the garage, another a fence.
"I was sleeping. My boyfriend was in the shower. And I heard a big 'bang'," said Ashley Anderson whose car was mangled.
The hit and run in Anderson's Miantonomi Avenue driveway was over in a matter of seconds. The damage is extensive.
"They had to hit the car pretty hard for there to be aluminum snapped in half," said Anderson's boyfriend Paul Boyd. Boyd's SUV was also damaged.
The garage was also destroyed in the crash. The door is caved in, the glass shattered, and part of it was knocked right off the foundation. A third car, belonging to Anderson's roommate, is stuck inside.
"It's ready to fall over," said Anderson.
Police are now looking for the driver of a large vehicle, red in color, with damage to the front. You can still see the tire marks along the driveway from when they took off.
"It has to still be here. It couldn't have gone too far," said Boyd.
Investigators are looking into whether it was a drunk driving accident. Anderson's driveway runs parallel to Freeborn St. at a busy intersection.
"I just bought the car. I have kids. It's Christmas," said Anderson. "I just don't need this right now."
The couple says they have a security camera, but didn't have a chance to set it up yet.
