PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) _ The Pawtucket Red Sox are set to formally introduce a Massachusetts native who played 12 years in the majors in California and served as a minor league coach in the Red Sox organization as their new manager.
Gary DiSarcina will be introduced at a news conference at McCoy Stadium Friday. The 45-year-old comes from the Los Angeles Angels, where he was recently promoted to special assistant to the general manager. He played shortstop for the Angels from 1989-2000.
DiSarcina managed the Lowell Spinners, a Red Sox minor league affiliate, from 2007-2009 and was Boston's minor league infield coordinator in 2010.
He replaces Arnie Beyeler, who is now the Red Sox first base coach. The PawSox last season won the International League title but lost the Triple-A national championship.
