Governor Lincoln Chafee has signed an executive order to ensure more transparency in government.
The governor's new "Transparency and Accountability Initiative" will allow Rhode Islanders access to a number of public documents via the Internet. Some documents have already been uploaded to the state's new Internet based Transparency Portal.
Over the next 18 months Rhode Islanders can expect to see financial reports, audits, forms and a variety of other financial documents pertaining to state government and quasi-public agencies on the portal.
The Office of Management and Budget will oversee the initiative for state agencies through its Office of Performance Management.
