RICHMOND, R.I. - Drivers on Route 3 and elsewhere can breathe a sigh of relief after police took a man into custody Saturday for driving drunk at over four times the legal limit.
State police say around 6 p.m. Saturday, an off-duty Connecticut state trooper spotted a man driving erratically on Route 3 in Richmond. When police found and stopped the driver, they say the man appeared to be severely intoxicated.
After performing several tests, police arrested Thomas Eaton, 43, of South Attleboro, Mass. for driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license. When police breathalyzed Mr. Eaton, they say he blew a .362% and a .356% the second time, over four times the legal limit for driving after drinking.
Police say the man has been arrested for DUI at least twice over the past ten years.
