A New Bedford man was arrested on Saturday after assaulting a loss prevention officer at a Dartmouth Lowe's with a drill and threatening him with a syringe.

Police responded to the Lowe's store after a report of a shoplifter. When police arrived they received reports that 29-year-old Adam Ferreira had allegedly swung a drill at the head of a store loss prevention officer who attempted to detain him for shoplifting. He also is accused of brandishing a syringe during the dispute.

Ferreira was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, shoplifting over $100, possession of a class E substance, and four outstanding warrants.
