In a historic vote the same-sexed marriage bill passed the
Rhode Island House of Representatives in a 51-19 vote.
This is the first time the bill, which has been proposed continuously
for over a decade, has ever been voted on by the RI House of Representatives.
It will now move on to the Senate.
The bill is expected to face more of a challenge in the
Senate which is a significantly smaller body consisting of only 38 members.
Currently, Rhode Island is the only state in New England that has not legalized gay marriage.
