Just a few days after a fatal fire in Lincoln, another fire tore through an East Providence home killing a 68-year-old man.
The fire at 106 South Blossom St. was reported to the fire department around 10:00 a.m. on Thursday when neighbors saw smoke coming from the home.
On scene firefighters pulled the man, identified as Ronald Duarte, from the his bedroom and administered CPR. He was then transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators have ruled the fire accidental. An improperly disposed cigarette sparked the fire.
According to neighbors the man lived alone and was a war veteran.
Fire crews say the fire was particularly difficult because of the extremely cold temperatures.
