REHOBOTH, Mass. - A North Dighton man is dead after police say his pickup truck flew through the air and crashed into a tree.
Police say shortly before 11 p.m. Friday night they were sent to the crash, in the area of 11 Cedar Street. When they arrived, they found a pickup truck that had been split into two pieces after apparently crashing into a tree.
The driver, Robert Smith, 29, of North Dighton, was found nearby. Police say he was ejected from his truck when it crashed. Smith was taken to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
There were no passengers inside the truck when it crashed.
According to police, there was extensive damage to the truck. The back and side windows were broken, and the entire back portion of the truck lay several yards away from the cab.
Police have no word on the cause of the crash.
